The first six months of 2014 in the Port of Gdansk
Port performs better than last year

22.07.2014

Port of Gdansk Authority SA added up its handling volumes in the first half of 2014. They turned out to equal 15.4 million tonnes, which was 10% more than in H1 2013. The volume of general cargo handled at the Port of Gdansk (36% of all cargo) has continued to grow in recent years. After six months general cargo occupies the first place together with liquid fuels (5.6 million tonnes each), 93% of which is general cargo in containers (621,966 TEU) handled jointly in DCT and GTK.

The next places were taken by coal and other bulk cargo (1.7 million tonnes and an 11% share each). However, compared to 2013 the Port of Gdansk suffered a 37% drop in coal handling volumes. Yet the imports of aggregate rose by as much as 55%. In addition, the Port of Gdansk handled much more grains than before (an increase by 60%). The summary of the first half of 2014 suggests the Port handled over 800,000 tonnes of grains, with exports and imports balanced out.
