A 100 tonnes lifting capacity at the Port of Gdansk

The Port of Gdansk is systematically catching up with the modern technologies. Another example of this process includes a purchase of a modern mobile harbor crane suited for container handling. "Liebherr" LAM 420 - has been manufactured in Nezing, Austria and its capacity of 100 tonnes makes it "the strongest" crane in this part of Europe. Its weight amounts to 380 tonnes, whereas the extension is 50 meters. It is capable of servicing vessels carrying 9 rows of containers onboard.

The crane has two cabins: one fixed to the undercarriage and another at a height of 23 meters. The extension arm is equipped with a camera that enables an operator to observe a transported container on a screen inside the cabin. Technologically advanced features of the crane consist, first and foremost, in the fact that the crane operating is constantly monitored in Nezig by means of a radio transmitter and serviced in the same way.

"Liebherr" was shipped from Hamburg to the Port of Gdansk onboard RMS Arcturus on Sunday, 14^th this month and has moored at the Szczecinskie Quay. On Monday, 15^th this month, at the Szczecinskie Quay two mobile "Liebherr" cranes (with capacities of 120 and 400 tonnes) will be prepared to provide unloading services. The starting time of cranes operating has been scheduled at 15:00 hours, though a conclusive decision on a launch of the unloading is to be taken by a team representing the manufacturer that will supervise the unloading of each of the components and the assembly of the crane. The assembly work will take two weeks and, at a later stage, training will be provided to the new crane operators.
