Record-breaking shipment of vehicles

24.05.2006

On 24 May 2006, the car carrier "Pearl Ray" with a load of over 3,700 vehicles called at the Port of Gdansk. This is the largest one-off shipment of cars in history to be handled at the Port Gdansk quays. Due to the ship parameters - its length exceeds 190 metres and the draft nears 9 metres - the vessel moored at the Oliwskie Quay.

2 800 out of the delivered cars are Chevrolets from the volume of 40 thou. to be handled by February 2007, pursuant to the contract, by the Port of Gdansk Cargo Logistics. These are vehicles manufactured at GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Company Ltd in South Korea. From the Port of Gdansk, the Chevrolet cars are transported to the FSO Car Factory in Warsaw where each car is dismantled into nine parts and then hauled to Ukraine. They are reassembled and made ready for sale by the Zaporozheye Car Manufacturing Company Avto ZAZ.

The other vehicles brought to the Port of Gdansk onboard "Pearl Ray" are Nissan Almera cars in transit to Russia (700 cars) and for the Polish market (200 cars).

The discharging of all cars is to be completed in the morning on the next day after the ship's arrival at the Port of Gdansk.
