Visit of representatives from the Regional Environmental Council of Latvia

26.05.2015

On 21st May this year, the Port of Gdansk hosted representatives from the Regional Environmental Council of Latvia (Lielriga Environmental Board), which is one of eight institutions included in the government's environmental institutions under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of Latvia.

This particular unit mainly deals with the implementation of environmental policy at a national level in Riga, Jurmala and in 20 other regions such as Babite, Baldone and Carnikava. At the same time, the unit is responsible for issuing environmental permits, for example for the emission of particles and gases at ports.

One of the objectives of this visit from our eastern neighbours was to swap experiences in terms of environmental protection and pro-environmental methods and means used in the Port of Gdansk presented to our guests by Magdalena Korpalska - a specialist in environmental protection. Moreover, two important companies operating at the port - Naftoport (liquid fuel transshipment) and the Container Terminal DCT Gdansk SA - were represented. Anna Frąckiewicz from Naftoport talked about the modern stations for the air monitoring system and the installation for the collection of hydrocarbon vapour. On the other hand, the possibility of using so-called green energy in running cranes and gantries was presented by Dominik Milion - Manager of the Safety department / Representative of the DCT Gdansk SA Board of the department of Quality Management.
