Repairs to Przemyslowe Quay

26.07.2004

Year 2004 proves to be vital for the Przemyslowe Quay. Numbered among the busiest quays in the Port of Gdansk, after many years, it has eventually lived to undergo the repair works, however, the term "redevelopment" appears much more appropriate under the circumstances.

Phase I of the works that is due for completion by the close of 2004 comprises the dismantling of sections of the existing quay, with the 100-year timber-built piles to be remained. The removed sections will be replaced with a new front wall made of reinforced concrete, a new quay slab complete with a surface, service lines and equipment to be provided.

As a result of the implemented work, the company of "Chemiki" operating the Przemyslowe Quay will have at their disposal an upgraded 250-meter long quay capable of handling vessels with a draft of up to 8 meters. In a long run, the deepening of the canal will be feasible, which will enable berthing of ships with up to 10-meter draft.

The cost of work comprised in phase I amounts to about PLN 10.5 million. These are funds designated by the Port of Gdansk Authority SA, which ascertains the implementation of the cargo-oriented financial policy adopted by the Port of Gdansk Authority SA aimed at granting financial support to the inner port, which will contribute to its being more attractive and competitive as compared with other seaports.
