A new road bridge, part of the
Sucharski Route, expected to open soon21.05.2002 A road bridge in the course of the Sucharski Route, a suspension bridge on the Martwa Wisla and a tunnel under the port's water track are the investments that enable the traffic flow between the Port of Gdansk and the Warsaw Route to be diverted from the centre of Gdansk. For some time now, the suspension bridge have been serving the purposes of the Port, as well as its business partners. Currently, the construction work of a new road bridge, part of the Sucharski Route is approaching its final stage. According to the schedules, the development of the bridge that has been carried out by the GPRD Skanska is due to completion by May 31st this year. This is to be followed by technical inspections, whereas the official opening of the bridge has been scheduled for mid-June. The cost of the investment has been financially secured by the Municipality, however, a substantial contribution has been made by the Port of Gdansk Authority SA. Total cost of the investment amounted to PLN 11 million, of which PLN 535 thousand had been contributed by the Port of Gdansk Authority SA in 2001 and PLN 2.14 million in 2002. A modern and technologically advanced road bridge, in the course of the Sucharski Route, with a bearing capacity of 50 tonnes has been provided with a dual carriageway and a separate cycling route. Its design ensures a non-collision traffic flow. The bridge is expected to replace the old and exploited one of little capacity. |
