Seaports at the Senate

On December 17th, 2002, at the Upper Chamber of the Polish Parliament - the Senate of the Republic of Poland, the 4th edition of Maritime Commerce Summit was held with participation of i.a. presidents of the authorities of the major Polish seaports. The event was organized by the Senate Commission of the State's Treasury and Infrastructure under the auspices of Marshall of the Senate of the Republic of Poland - Mr. Longin Pastusiak, who draw attention to the nationwide strategic meaning of the maritime commerce. Additionally, the conference was attended by Members of Parliament, representatives of the government and local authorities, maritime administration, businesses operating in the field of maritime commerce, as well as scientists and researchers. In his address, the Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Mr. Marek Szymonski emphasized the significance of motorways network development in terms of competitiveness growth of Polish ports. Port expansion strategies, as well as adverse conditions encountered in the course of their implementation were presented by Presidents of seaport authorities: Port of Gdansk Authority SA - Mr. Andrzej Kasprzak, Port of Gdynia Authority SA - Mr. Jerzy Wielinski and Authority of Szczecin and Swinoujscie Seaports - Mr. Andrzej Montwill. Further statements were made among others by the Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy - Mr. Maciej Lesny, who addressed the ship building and repair industry development strategy and by the Pomeranian Governor - Mr. Jan Ryszard Kurylczyk.

The conference provided a suitable opportunity for the Deputies to get acquainted with the major issues related to the maritime commerce. It also turned out to be an adequate forum for exchanging ideas on current adverse conditions and development priorities in the field of maritime commerce.
