The "Amber Duck" award for the Port of Gdansk Authority SA

17.10.2006

As the tradition has it, representatives of maritime trade businesses gathered in October at the "Duck Meeting" that comprised over 1800 participants.

The event was attended by a number of prominent guests: Maciej Plazynski - Deputy Speaker of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, Rafal Wiechecki - Minister of Maritime Economy, Jan Kozlowski - Marshal of the Pomeranian Region and City Mayors of Gdansk - Pawel Adamowicz, and Gdynia - Wojciech Szczurek. Also attending were CEOs of Poland's major maritime companies. The special guest at the meeting was Linde Gas, a renowned international company distributing industrial gases all over the world.

The "Duck Meeting 2006" abounded in events and attractions. During the meeting the honorary "Amber Duck" award was presented, as well as three "Amber Egg" honorable mentions annually awarded by the Polish Chamber of Maritime Commerce. The main prize - "Amber Duck" was awarded to the Port of Gdansk Authority SA. The award was intended to honour the Port of Gdansk for its efforts aimed at containerization of the port.

The following companies were named recipients of the "Amber Egg": Szczecin Shipyard Nowa Ltd, Polish Steamship Company SA and Pol-Levant Shipping Lines Ltd.

During the event lots were drawn for a cruise for two sponsored by Polferries, and weekend getaways sponsored by hotels Haffner in Sopot and Marina in Gdansk. Due to numerous attractions and superb atmosphere, participants to the meeting have already declared at their departure to meet again next year.
