The biggest cruise liner ever in the history of the Port of Gdansk

11.08.2009

On 11 August 2009, the Gdansk port saw two cruise liners dock at its quays. The first was "Sea Cloud II" calling for the third time this year at the Ziolkowski Quay and the second - the 286.43 metre long "MS Arcadia" - the biggest cruise liner ever in the history of the Gdansk port.

"MS Arcadia" has a maximum draught of 7.77 metres and can develop a total speed of up to 22 knots. The gross tonnage of the vessel is 82,972 GT.

"MS Arcadia", which sails under the Bermuda flag, was built in 2004 by an Italian ship building company in as short time as twenty months and set out on its maiden voyage in 2005. It is owned by the British operator P&O Cruises.

The cruise ship brought on its board 2,015 passengers, with a crew of 871 personnel catering to their needs. The guests have eleven decks at their disposal, including three decks of atrium type. The liner offers fourteen bars, four restaurants, cafeteria, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, theatre, cinema, casino, night club, wellness, art gallery and - most interestingly - four glass-sided lifts mounted on the external walls of the ship.

"MS Arcadia" set out on this voyage from Great Britain and proceeded to Norway, Poland (Gdansk port), Sweden, Estonia, Russia, Finland, Denmark and Belgium. The cruise liner will end up its voyage on 21 August 2009 back at the coast of Great Britain.
