The Doubled Capacity02.04.2004 As a result of upgrades on the Szczecinskie Quay, on Tuesday March 30, this year, at the Gdansk Container Terminal, the first-ever handling of two container ships was successfully carried out at the same time. These were the vessels owned by the OOCL shipowner - "Narva" (133 m in length) part of SBX service and by the Containerships Oy shipowner - "Petsamo" (84.28 m in length). They were both handled simultaneously early in the morning: the first one called at the port at 10:15 pm the day before and left the port at 7:00 am, whilst the second one - at 4:10 am and 10:00 am respectively. Both vessels make regular calls at the Port of Gdansk on a weekly basis. The mooring of two vessels, of which one being 133 m in length, was facilitated owing to the dredging work on the Szczecinskie Quay that had been financed by the Port of Gdansk Authority SA. This year, the Port of Gdansk Authority SA is planning to implement further upgrades that will enable lengthening the quay. The Gdansk Container Terminal continues to develop its capacity in terms of handling container ships, whereas the agreeable terms and conditions attract new business partners to the port. As early as in the next few days, the launching of a new regular container service is expected.
