The largest ever container carrier at the Gdansk Container Terminal

07.03.2006

"Roland Delmas" numbers among the largest container carriers handled so far at the Gdansk Container Terminal in the Port of Gdansk. A 186-metre long vessel operating under the flag of Bahamas is designed to carry 1,327 TEU (20-feet containers) as well as Ro/Ro cargos. Before she made her way to the Gdansk Container Terminal on 3 March this year, the vessel underwent an overhaul in the Gdansk Repair Shipyard SA.

The Szczecinskie Quay where the Terminal is located has been extended during the last year's expansion work by 92 metres and presently measures over 360 metres in total. This enables the simultaneous handling of two large-sized container carriers or three smaller vessels, which was the case with the mooring of "Roland Delmas". During the loading of the largest container carrier, the Terminal also handled smaller ships that call at Gdansk as part of regular container services. "Roland Delmas" took a cargo of 500 TEU from Gdansk.
