The Minister-President of Flanders visits the Port of Gdansk19.03.2015 On 18 March this year, the Port of Gdansk plc was honoured to host the Minister-President of the Flemish Region (the Flemish Prime Minister) Mr Geert Bourgeois who came to Gdansk on an official visit for "Flemish Week" held between 14-21 March. During his visit to the port he was accompanied by Yvens Wantens - the General Representative of the Flemish government in Poland and the Baltic States as well as Hendrik Theunissen - Deputy Prime Minister.
The celebration of this "Flemish Week" organised in the spirit of the Hanseatic traditions connecting Flanders and Poland were dominated by three main issues: maritime cooperation, urban development and heritage protection. With the former in mind, the Minister-President decided to pay a visit to the Port of Gdansk where, in the company of the President of the Port Authority (Dorota Raben), Vice President of the City of Gdansk (Andrzej Bojanowski) and the former Polish Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Member of the Supervisory Board of the Northern Port ltd (Slawomir Czarlewskiego), he spent a 90-minute cruise on the waters of the Inner and Outer Port and gained an excellent insight into the Port of Gdansk's potential, development plans and prospects for the future. The visit of Minister-President of was also an opportunity to discuss the possibility of cooperation between the Port of Gdansk and ports of the Flemish Region, a close cooperation dating back to the Middle Ages. The Minister-President's visit was also the first of two scheduled meetings with representatives of the Belgian delegation planned at the Port of Gdansk during the celebration of Flemish Week.
