The Newly Launched Ziolkowskiego Quay16.09.2002 The Port of Gdansk has recently extended its quay facilities with a new and elegant waterfront boulevard along the port's canal with further mooring berths for small-sized vessels operating on the port's water tracks.
Following the two-year refurbishment work the Port of Gdansk has recently opened a new representative waterfront - the 250 meter-long Ziolkowskiego Quay situated in front of the Harbour Master's Office of the Port of Gdansk. The Port of Gdansk Authority SA had the hydrotechnical work performed by Hydrobudowa Gdansk SA.
It is worthwhile emphasizing that during the quay development (the old one having been dismantled) special care was taken to preserve historic and representative features of the site - old stone slabs were used as building material. Due to the fact that the quay is open to the public a walking path was provided with stylish banks and lamp-posts. Apart from its representative features, the Ziolkowskiego Quay will serve a more practical purpose as a mooring place for small-sized boats, tow-boats and pilot boats. Currently the Port of Gdansk Authority SA is holding talks on the subject with both a Gdansk-based towing company (Port and Maritime Services "WUZ"), as well as a piloting company.
