The Port of Gdansk at the European Economic Congress in Katowice again17.05.2017 Between 10 and 12 May 2017, the European Economic Congress was held in Katowice for the ninth time, and the Port of Gdansk Authority SA took active part in the event. The three-day cycle of debates and meetings, with the participation of 8,000 guests from Poland and abroad, attracted representatives of the world of business and politics to Katowice. It was the perfect opportunity to present the Port's recent successes, its offer and development concepts. The Port of Gdansk was a partner of the session entitled: "Polish ports - in the global market and in the system of European transport corridors". During the session, Lukasz Greinke presented the very good transshipment results of the Port, and its investment plan. Gdansk currently has a 46.1% share in the Polish maritime market, and 78% in liquid fuel handling. Its transshipments exceeded 37 million tonnes, which put the Port the 6th position in the Baltic Sea and second in terms of container handling. From the bulk cargo port which it was in the 1970s, Gdansk has become a universal one, handling liquid and loose bulk cargo, and containerised and conventional general cargo alike. Its development plans concern more than just the immediate future, reaching as far ahead as 2020 and including the construction of the Central Port. The panelists discussed the role of seaports in handling Poland's foreign trade, the significance of ports in the Baltic-Adriatic transport corridor, their role and chances in gaining transit potential, the economic situation of the maritime sector and its prospects. President Lukasz Greinke also appeared in the "Domestic cargo transport market" panel, during which the panelists talked about railway cargo transport in Poland, the challenges facing Polish railways and carriers, and the need for the development of the logistics base and infrastructure. The Port of Gdansk's current warehousing potential was presented by Adam Klos, Head of the Client Relations Department, during the debate entitled: "Free areas. An idea and cooperation". Our presence in Katowice also involved building the position and brand of the Port of Gdansk in the consciousness of the representatives of Polish and foreign business. This is an element of the PGA's public mission. Additionally, during all of the Congress days, the guests had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the port's offer, also at the Port of Gdansk's stand, which enjoyed great interest. We encourage you to view the complete photo coverage of the event on the port's Facebook fan page and Twitter account. During the Forum, further talks on the cooperation between the PGA and several partners, including PGE, were planned. |
