The Port of Gdansk entered into a cooperation agreement with WSB University in Gdansk12.02.2016 On 12 February 2016, the Port of Gdansk Authority SA and WSB University in Gdansk ceremonially signed a cooperation agreement which is to give rise to joint undertakings aimed, among others, at the development of maritime education among the students of WSB University. This is not the first agreement of this type to which the Port of Gdansk Authority SA is a signatory. Similar ones have been concluded with the Gdansk University of Technology, the University of Gdansk - Faculty of Economics, and the Faculty of Navigation of Gdynia Maritime University. Cooperation in the educational and scientific field, aimed at increasing the quality of education at Polish universities and colleges, particularly in the context of the Polish maritime economy, is very important to the Port of Gdansk. In the view of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA, the introduction of elements of practical knowledge of the maritime economy sector into theoretical educational activities is an aspect which cannot be overestimated and which can be implemented, among others, through such agreements and other, similar initiatives. For several years now, the Port of Gdansk has been making every effort to remain an entity which readily shares its knowledge and experience, and as far as possible, supports the community, among others in the context of spreading maritime education, as this conditions the possibilities of the development of a new, young workforce aware of the potential of the Polish sea and the broadly-defined Polish maritime industry, which is becoming an increasingly important part of the domestic economy year by year. Seeing the educational potential of the maritime industry, WSB University in Gdansk decided to add a new major to its catalogue of areas of study in the new academic year - Safety of Seaports and Airports. With this idea in mind, both institutions - WSB University and the Port of Gdansk Authority - entered into a cooperation agreement which, in the context of the subject matter of the new area of study, will generally focus on issues connected with the safety of seaports, but will not be limited solely to this subject area, as maritime education provides a very broad spectrum of cooperation possibilities. The signatories to the agreement do not exclude the possibility of undertaking joint scientific and research projects, organising scientific conferences, thematic symposia, workshops, seminars and studio visits to the port in the years to come. On behalf of the Port of Gdansk Authority SA, the document was signed by Dorota Raben, President of the Board, and Jerzy Melaniuk, Vice-President of the Infrastructure Department. The other party was represented by the President of WSB University, Jan Wi¶niewski, Associate Professor, PhD. |
