The role of the port in Poland's maritime policy

20.09.2010

On 13-14 September 2010, at the New City Hall in Gdansk, a two-day international conference was held under the theme "Seaport Management Models in Poland and Europe", jointly organised by the Association of Polish Sea Cities and Municipalities in conjunction with the Marshal of the Pomeranian Region. The honorary patronage of the event was provided by the Ministry of Infrastructure and city mayors of Gdansk, Gdynia, Szczecin and Swinoujscie. Partners to the conference included: the Port of Gdansk Authority SA, the Port of Gdynia Authority SA, Naftoport and InvestGDA.

The conference was attended in large numbers by representatives of Gdansk and Gdynia local governments, members of the parliament, as well as managers and administrators of the West European ports and representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure. Their presentations and speeches focused mainly on the advantages and disadvantages of the currently effective models of cooperation between local governments and port authorities. The debate was aimed at defining solutions in terms of the national maritime policy that will boost and strengthen the competitive edge of the Polish ports.
