The summer heat at DCT Gdansk12.07.2010 The summer heat this year at the Deepwater Container Terminal Gdansk is creating records not only due to exceptionally high temperatures. By handling a total of 184,336 TEU's, DCT Gdansk has already exceeded the entire last year's throughput volume by over 20 thou. TEU's. As the terminal's monthly turnovers are constantly on the rise, it is expected that this year DCT will record a threefold year-on-year growth, reaching a result of 450 thou.TEU's. DCT Gdansk's CEO, Boris Wenzel, expects that thanks to the rapid growth in turnovers coupled with the sustained high quality of stevedoring services, it will be possible to purchase additional cargo handling equipment. This will enable to gradually attain a throughput capacity of up to 1,000,000 TEU's. DCT Gdansk is the only terminal on the Baltic Sea providing direct shipping services from the Far East operated by MAERSK LINE carriers. It offers a year-round ice-free approach channel with a depth of 17 metres and a handling pier for vessels with 14.5 metres draught. The pier is equipped with three post-Panamax gantry cranes, which can handle carries with up to 18 rows of containers on board. The list of those who have already trusted the service offered by DCT includes such world-renowned container operators as: Hapag-Lloyd, NYK, Cosco, China Shipping, Hamburg Sud, ZIM, Hyundai, MOL, K-Line, UASC and Evergreen.
