The Universal Port

27.05.2003

The implementation of the strategy aimed at the increased volumes and more universal structure of cargos handled at the Port of Gdansk has brought tangible effects. This is evidenced by very good results recorded during the first four months of this year. Compared to the respective period of the last year, a considerable 10% growth has been recorded.

The previous months confirmed a growing trend when it comes to general cargo handling. A 25% growth, as compared to the last year's results, contributes to a consistent consolidation of this cargo group at the Port of Gdansk over the recent years.

A substantial growth in cargo handling has also been recorded in terms of liquid fuel, as well as other bulk, the latter having increased by nearly 50%.

Port's activities, however, include not only cargo shipment, but also passenger traffic. From January to April this year, the Port of Gdansk has serviced over 70,000 passenger ferry crossings. Such a rapid development of tourists business can provide a significant incentive when it comes to the development of the city and the entire region, even more so, as the high summer season is yet to come.
