Dredger and tow boat onboard "Rubin"

08.08.2002

On Tuesday, August 6 this year, a "Euroafrica" Shipping Line vessel - "Rubin" from Kaliningrad called at the Port of Gdansk with a task to collect an unusual type of cargo that was a dredger and a tow boat. Previously, the dredger together with the "Kociewiak" tow boat had been used for carrying out dredger works on the Vistula, in the area of Tczew. Having been loaded onboard "Rubin" by the stevedores of Port of Gdansk Cargo Logistics Ltd., the two machines headed for Port Harcourt, Lagos.

The dredger was dismantled into a number of 21 pieces and then loaded onboard "Rubin" by means of a modern 100-tonnes mobile "Liebherr" crane that had been recently commenced into operation, whereas the "Kociewiak" tow boat was lifted from the water onto the board with the use of the vessel's onboard lifting machinery. The overall weight of the cargo totaled 431 tonnes.

Upon completion of the cargo handling operation "Rubin" left the Port of Gdansk on Wednesday, August 7 this year, around the midnight hour.
