Veterinary Border Inspection Post

30.11.2004

On November 17, 2004 work commenced on the construction of a veterinary border inspection post for animal products at the Wislane Quay in the Port of Gdansk. The border inspection post will meet all the European Union veterinary control regulations for seaports situated on external borderlines of the European Union. The commencement of work was preceded by nearly one-year long procedures concerning the necessary agreements between the Port of Gdansk Authority SA on the one hand with the state administration and the European Commission on the other, and also by the provision of project documentation and selecting a contractor by tender.

Aiming at the rationalization of construction and maintenance costs of the border inspection post, this facility has been developed based on the adaptation of the hall of Warehouse 18 with a usable floor area of 503 m2.

Completion of the investment and implementation of the European Union procedures for the approval and listing in the Union register of veterinary border inspection posts are due in the first quarter of 2005. As a result, the Port of Gdansk will join other Polish seaports of pivotal importance for the national economy, where veterinary border check of all animal products is exerted in compliance with the European Union standards.
