Port's contribution to the Wisloujscie Fortress

28.05.2002

The preservation of a priceless historical monument of the Wisloujscie Fortress and its attractive appearance and arrangement for tourists purposes calls for taking comprehensive action. This awareness is shared by Adam Koperkiewicz, Director of the Gdansk Historical Museum, who has been striving for the adequate development of the historical facilities around the Wisloujscie Fortress - inclusive of the surrounding earth-work and the outer moat.

The Port of Gdansk Authority SA, who holds the priority purchase rights of the grounds that constitute the focus of interests of the Gdansk Historical Museum, has shown an amicable attitude towards the initiative proposed by Director Adam Koperkiewicz. In order to provide most favourable conditions for the tourism development and the exposure of the Wisloujscie Fortress, the Port of Gdansk Authority SA has decided on a free of charge transference of the Barge Terminal Quay with the view to the purposes of the Gdansk Historical Museum. This has contributed to providing suitable grounds for the use of the quay as a pleasure boats terminal for the tourists visiting the Wisloujscie Fortress, which was the objective of efforts made by Adam Koperkiewicz.

The contract on a free of charge transference of the quay was made on May 27 this year.
